The Production of the Film:
During my time at Tik-Tok Creative Academy, I joined a studio workshop where I met and connected with fellow creatives, many with similar backgrounds in animation, film and music. For our time in the studio, we were given a challenge and that was to produce a live-action short film or a music video in a single day.
We brainstormed over what the format should be and finally, we agreed to make a live-action short film. We all wanted to create something that was shrouded within the genres of mystery and thriller, which allowed me to seize the opportunity to pitch my concept: an adaptation of "The Witness," Alberto Mielgo's captivating CG film (Love, Death and Robots).
The short film follows a young girl's terrifying escape after witnessing a murder, with the plot twist at the end where she becomes the murderer from defending herself and creating the ironic plot twist of her murder being a witness to her act, a genius narrative made by Mielgo himself.
Successfully, I convinced my group by showcasing the film and highlighting its blend of mystery, thriller, and innovative cinematography.
Quickly, we adopted the roles of a film crew, sharing a common vision for the project. Inspired by Mielgo's style, we focused on replicating the film's most impactful scenes and its surprising twist ending within our limited timeframe.
I served as a producer of the film under the guidance of experienced filmmakers, we collaborated closely, carefully adapting cinematography, lighting, and atmosphere to capture the essence of Mielgo's work.
I volunteered as a cinematographer and utilised the studio's cameras to shoot the opening scene, while leveraging the surrounding environment, effectively communicating with the actors, and meticulously attending to every detail, to capture the genres of mystery and thriller.
